Fiddlesticks was formed in the 1990s in the Music Dept at UCC by Liz Doherty, lecturer in traditional music at UCC (1994-2000).

Conceived as a new way for teaching and learning traditional music through performance, this innovative group was the first big traditional Irish fiddle ensemble. They also explored the music of Cape Breton, Scotland and Scandinavia and recorded one critically acclaimed album Racket in the Rectory.

The membership changed a lot over the years as students graduated and new students joined. They played at a few very memorable Fiddle Fair concerts back in the late 90s in McCarthy's and were certainly the biggest number of musicians we ever had on that tiny stage.

Their last performance was at Celtic Connections in Glasgow inĀ 2000. Their last performance until now that is!

After making them an offer they simply couldn't refuse, we're delighted that we have managed to coax them out of retirement to join us for our birthday bash.
