Juliet Turner at the Glebe

jt_small.gifThe Glebe Gardens and Cafe, in association with the Baltimore Fiddle Fair, are pleased to invite you to the Amphitheatre at the Glebe Gardens Tuesday 2 August for an evening with singer/songwriter Juliet Turner.

From Turner's website:

"Turner’s live shows should be experienced. She is a quiet, relaxed performer with a wicked sense of humour. Her voice is unusually clear and sweet and her between song anecdotes are amusing, eccentric and off-the-cuff. Prepare to be drawn in and bowled over."

Radio Fiddle Fair

radio fiddle fair logoWe've been experimenting with a technology called xspf and with it have created Radio Fiddle Fair which allows you to play selections from past Fiddle Fair shows (now playing Fiddle Fair 2000, I think). We're still experimenting, and ok it's not really radio, but if you care to listen, select Radio Fiddle Fair in the above right Links list. It should open a popup window with a list of music in a kind of player. From there just press the > arrow and the thing should play.

If there is no popup you may need to enable popups for fiddlefair.com pages. If it doesn't play or if you just want to comment on Radio Fiddle Fair (or anything else Fiddle Fair related) please email the webmaster @ fiddlefair.com.

Mozaik at the Glebe

MozaikThe Glebe Gardens and Cafe in association with The Baltimore Fiddle Fair present Moziak, The Ultimate Global String Band, featuring Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, Bruce Molsky, Nikola Parov and Rens Vander Zalm. Mozaik will play on Wednesday 26th July.

For further information call 028 20232 or e-mail glebegardens@ eircom.net

From the Mozaik website:

Mozaik started life as a "great idea" that Andy Irvine had, whilst driving through New South Wales on a beautiful December morning - "Get a bunch of your favourite musicians together and do a tour of this beautiful country". This is exactly what he did and to his delight every one of the musicians were as excited as he was.

"Donal is one of the most innovative musicians that Ireland has ever produced, the instrument that Nikola cannot play has not yet been invented, Bruce is the closest thing I have ever heard to the Old Timey music recorded in the 20's and early 30's and Rens is a very inventive musician that I could not imagine this band without - Some of the finest musicians I had ever come across."

Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, Bothy Band guitarist and vocalist, with a musical carrer that spanned over thirty years, passed away suddenly last weekend.

The Fiddle Fair staff and management sends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

The Session has a wonderful fan thread with many links on his life and his art.

From T.D. John O'Donoghue comes this press release:

PRESS RELEASE 9th July, 2006
John O'Donoghue, T.D., Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, today (Sunday, 9th July, 2006) expressed his sadness at the sudden death of renowned musician Micheal O'Domhnaill.

A native of Co. Meath and with family roots in Donegal, Micheal had a glittering career as a member of Skara Brae and later The Bothy Band as well as being the presenter of the first series of "The Long Note" on RTE.

Minister O'Donoghue said "Micheal O'Domhnaill was one of Ireland's most gifted and well loved musicians. His contribution to the world of traditional and folk music was enormous. His passing is a great loss and he will be sadly missed."

Minister O'Donoghue extended his deepest sympathies to the extended O'Domhnaill family and to his sisters Triona and Maighread.
